Any one else get this totally annoying American Express pop up ad every time they are on Outsports lately?? Its insidious!!! I have a pop up blocker too, and it seems to have found its way around this. I am also getting some kind of a "script running error" message too, that sometimes comes with this ad.....This is the most aggressive pop up I have experienced in some time.
J eddie
You are not the only one,Tom.
Cyd at Outsports
I'm sorry, I haven't seen it. I use FireFox as my browser. What are you using, Tom?

BTW, I recently started using myspace.com and I get a pop-under about every 30-60 seconds on that site. You should only be getting a pop-under twice a day AT MOST on Outsports.com - if that's not the case, please let us know!
shep71
That's not the case...That ad dropped down on me at least 15 times yesterday, and as I said in another thread, a couple times it froze up my browser and closed it down.

The AmerEX ad drops down from the top, above the Today at Outsports line (with the jock talk and pictures of the day, etc.)

I don't have a problem with ads on the site, it's just that this one is very intrusive. I too have pop-up blocker, and I use Inernet Explorer. I am not computer savy enough to know if it's something on my end, or something with the ad.

Good Luck figuring this one out.

It's the same problem for me,Shep.
hockeyTom
Cyd, I use IE.Good to hear that I am not alone. This is the most aggressive pop up I think I have ever run into.
shep71
It has popped up 4 times since I posted a little while ago, above.
hockeyTom
Yep, sure enough, it just re-emerged.
Maddog
I use IE and it hasn't crashed my browser yet (the 8-9 times it's popped up) but it won't fully load the ad so it gives a javascript error and asks me if I want to keep running scripts on Outsports.
UH Coog
I use Opera browser, but pop ups spread to non IE browsers. I also run Spybot S&D and Ad-aware SE (both available free from downloads.com or a google search). Running anti-adware will only barely keep you with these monsters, you will never stay ahead of them.

I'd suggest Firefox or Opera as an alternative to the windows targeted browser.
Cyd at Outsports
I'll definitely get on this. Because it's Saturday, you may not see an improvement until Monday. Please bear with us. And thanks for letting us know!
J eddie
Give em Hell,Cyd! wink
swiminbuff
I've been away on holiday for a week and was just checking on whats been going on while I was away. This thing has already popped up 8 times this morning. Please get rid of it.

Cyd is gonna work on it tomorrow. Its insidious, isn't it???
hockeyTom
I see where once again this morning....it's back!!!!!
Cyd at Outsports
Just wanted to give you an update. I am working on it. I'm so sorry about this. I'll let you know more as I know it. Thanks for your patience!
J eddie
Cyd,
No need to apologize.Amex, on the other hand isn't exactly winning me over! wink
hockeyTom
I hereby nominate that popup as the most aggressive, intrusive and insidious popup I have ever dealt with. Grrrrr....................I have deleted it about 7 times so far this morning.

I have contacted the company. They aren't having this problem anywhere else but are looking into it. Neither Jim nor I have had an AmEx pop=up ad at all. Strange.
Cyd at Outsports
I got this response from the company this morning. Do you all have cookies disabled?

"Hi Cyd ok so we have pulled reports that show that the frequency capping is working properly on our end. We are also only getting one pop when we go to your site. If your users reset their cookies then they will get multiple pops because the frequency cap is based on users cookies. Any download software on your users computers may also spawn pops on their desktop, regardless of which sites they visit.."
Gaga4Gaby
I get the dumb ad all the time ... also using Internet Explorer ... and I've never reset a cookie in my life.
shep71
I eat cookies, I've never reset one.
shore
it pops up at least three times during a posting.

shore
okay, the previous post didn't come out right because I was having to close the two windows from that ad, and ended up hitting the wrote edit key in my original post. the AmEx ad is only a little more invasive that the montreal games ad that used to shut down my pages.
J eddie
I thought deleting the cookies had worked but it seems to only be temporary.

I don't get these pop-ups, AT ALL!
Jim at Outsports
I've never even seen the ad, but Cyd is still investigating.
Enigma
It's popped up a few times on my computer...don't see a big deal to it, I mean all you gotta do is click the little "x"
hockeyTom
But, about a million times. frown
Cyd at Outsports
Thank you all for your patience!

AmEx has been removed as an advertiser; please let me know if you continue to see it (and clear your cache if you continue to see it - that may be the problem).
hockeyTom
Thank you very much Cyd. The finger I use to delete on the mouse was starting to get chaffed. wink
Enigma
It's a shame Outsports had to lose an advertiser...hopefully it doesn't affect the bottom line too much. Thanks for the hard work guys!
Ms. de Blazer
Just saw it. I will clear cache and see if that helps.

I'm sorry to hear that Cyd.It's too bad Amex wasn't willing to compromise. That was an extremely invasive pop-up.

So when is it going to go away because I'm still getting the pop up?

Same here but not quite as much. frown
Ms. de Blazer
twice more today
shore
I thought it was gone, as I didn't get it at all yesterday, but not online after the morning; but it just popped up today from nowhere.
ITJock
I tried clearing caches, and everything else I could think of.

What stumps me is how it gets by my internet security and 'pop-up blocker' which is usually good for everything else.

VERY annoying.

hockeyTom
Because its alive!!!! The only thing I can think of... wink
Cyd at Outsports
I'm sorry about this. I'm again working on it.
Adam
  How have I avoided getting the AmEx popup?? Usually, I get all the popups from anywhere in the known galaxy--but, it should be noted, fewer on this site than on others.

I'm annoyed and I LIKE American Express.

They helped finance me when I first started out.

Its not even a creative or pretty ad either - just boring and annoying.

hockeyTom
So far I have deleted it about 4X this morning..like I have said before, this thing has a life of its own. It refuses to go down! frown
jsieds
The only time I see the AMEX ad is when I post.
Ms. de Blazer
Shit! I just got a teleflora pop up!
hockeyTom
So far I have deleted it about 7 times this morning. I am getting a gun...... eek!
