New Mets player Karim Garcia is in trouble again. From today's New York Newsday, on Thursday night he and Shane Spencer were involved in a drunken altercation with teenage boys outside a pizzeria about 3 miles from the Mets spring training stadium. Two boys, 17 years old, say they witnessed a drunken Garcia stumbling out of a sports bar which is next to the pizzeria. Garcia then began urinating in front of the pizzeria. One of the boys yelled at him saying he "can't do that here". It was then that Garcia looked at the boy, winked and, according to the teen, asked, "You wanna have some fun?"
Garcia, Spencer and two female companions then sped off in a Hummer. A pizza delivery guy from the store began to chase after them. Why? Well I guess for pissing in front of the pizzeria. He should have just contacted a policeman instead of going after Garcia himself. Anyway once he caught up to them, Garcia and Spencer emerged from their Hummer and began taking swings at the pizza delivery guy.
Neither Garcia or Spencer have been arrested but the Mets are conducting their own investigation. Of course this is the same Karim Garcia who is awaiting a Boston judge's decision for his part in the Fenway Park bullpen incident last October.
Personally speaking, if I was outside the pizzeria that night, I would've hoped for a better looking ballplayer to ask me "Do you wanna have some fun?" LOL.

Maybe I'm being naive, but "fun" could have just been an invitation to join him in his drunken, drinking, car racing binge.

OK, if you are going to compare him to David Wells I'm going to have to check him out, David Wells is a very good looking man (he needs to let the beard get longer again though).

OK, checked him out; I must have a very different idea of what good looking is because Mr. Garcia is very hot.

That's what different tastes are all about! I think he's ugly, you like the guy. But we all have to agree that he seems like a major schmuck, starting fights with people and such!

Since he was there with a guy (Spencer) and two girls, it doesn't seem likely that he's trolling for a teenage boy. He's just a stupid drunk who couldn't think of anything intelligent to say. My guess is he wanted to beat the kid up so he, in his own stupid way, tried to lure the kid closer.

This incident confirms my feelings when the signings were made...we don't need to ex-yankee scum on the Mets.
If Duquette was smart, he would cut both of them immediately!

Clubhouse drama in March is something no team needs. Duquette I think would be better off trading one or both to different teams as part of a package with T-bonehead Perez or Roger Cedeno and get a decent 5th starter and/or a true power hitting outfielder.

I didn't read the New York Newsday article, but isn't this all alleged at this point? While I know that Karim Garcia isn't exactly a choirboy, isn't it possible that the teenagers could have elaborated the story a little bit? I guess what I am really asking is that is if Newsday or any other reliable source has confirmed all of the information? I would hate to think that even Mets fans are jumping to conclusions.

According to the Associated Press, Jim Duquette said the team would reprimand Garcia & Spencer and that he [Duquette] had apologized to a representative of the restaurant chain. Additionally, no police report was filed.

Did they ever settle the charges on Garcia stemming from the fracas in the bullpen during the Red Sox v. Yankees series last year?

I guess I want to know why the pizza guy decided to follow Garcia and Spencer. For pissing in a parking lot? It's not like he pissed on the pizza guy or robbed him or anything.
Sounds to me like an easy case could be made for self defense....garcia and spencer already left the scene, and the pizza guy came looking for more...

...and now the pizza guy's clamining he was beaten up? isn't this a new, uh, twist to the story? I don't recall hearing this earlier...

Js1metsfan, you are absolutely correct. I was discussing this with my co-worker. It seems the pizza delivery guy was looking for trouble or adventure or maybe even an autograph. He probably knew he was dealing with a few baseball celebrities. No one in their sane mind would go chasing after someone just for pissing in front of his store. He's the delivery guy for heavan sakes not the owner. Did this one guy think he was actually going to beat up Spencer and Garcia?
And now that he has filed a police report, this tells me he's now looking to cash in on a little fame. This case will go absolutely nowhere once the truth comes out. Garcia will get a summons to appear in court for urinating. He'll then plead guilty, pay a fine and that will be that. I hate when ordinary people try to make a big deal out of something just so they can get their 15 minutes of fame.

Saw this in today's paper:
QUOTE
Vidal said he was interviewed by a Mets representative, who promised the team would stay in touch. But when he read press accounts yesterday that the Mets had closed the matter by internally disciplining the players, Vidal became irate.
If this is true, all they had to say is "Spencer and Garcia have been (fined/suspended/released)" and presumably the guy wouldn't bother going to the police and telling the full story.
I don't know if I believe his story or not, but this whole "we are internally disciplining" stuff is a joke. It never works. Look at Allen Iverson. He was "internally disciplined" many times over the years and he STILL wants to miss practice. And seeing how the money amounts in fines are usually limited by the labor-management agreements, making them ridiculously affordable for players, the only way to punish them and make it hurt is by making it public.

Tennisbudcali, you're right, Garcia is butt ugly. And he's really stupid! I can't believe the Mets actually picked up these idiotic ex-Yankee spawn, but hey, someone had to do it (or not!). Sounds like he was baiting the young'un, but not coming on to him. Or maybe he was--a menage a cinq, isn't that's what it would be? Sounds like the usual bad karma surrounding New York's other team.
