THE LAST TABOO: GAYS IN SPORTS
Can I Play, is an in-depth look at the past, present and the future of gay athletes both in and out the closet. It is often said that only through understanding can one not fear. Why is there such a taboo with gay athletics? Is it fear, ignorance or just plane bigotry? Can I play will try to put a face on the subject by showing the reason why some athletes hide and why some come out. Why the trend to tolerate certain athletes, certain sports and women are becoming more acceptable and introduce you to individuals and teams, allowing them to tell you their stories on being gay and in sports.
I am in the process of creating a meaningful documentary about gays in sports, but I need everyones help. What I am looking for as far as assistants are subjects, sponsorships and crew to start the filming. The goal is, once the film is completed to do the festival tour in order to obtain distribution. Some of you may ask why am I trying to do this, the answer is simple. I want to make a change, try to make a difference in the lives of our young athletes. I already have one subject, myself. As a former soccer player and top youth coach in my state of florida I walked away from the game because of fear of discovery. But that will all change once my film, "Comes out".
