Joe in Philly
A brief mention of this and Outsports in this week's Phila. CityPaper.

Have any of you read HRC's letter to MLB, NHL & NFL about "gay" and "lesbian" on their jerseys?

This loser of an organization just can't lighten up. Everything has to be so freakin' serious, and they have to get involved in EVERY story they think might get them in the news.

I'm starting to think they're doing more bad than good for gay people - the over-reactive activist is so 35 years ago.

I don't know if it's bad that they wrote a letter. However, has it been confirmed that the NHL and MLB have similar bans if you try to personalize jerseys at their sites? And why didn't they write the NBA?

Under the circumstances discussed in this thread, I found this item amusing. It's from yesterday's Phila. Daily News:

QUOTE
Govs. Ed Rendell and Mitt Romney had their own names on the backs of Patriots' jerseys (numbered to show the score of the Super Bowl, Pats 24-Birds 21) they wore Sunday as Rendell paid off his Super Bowl bet by singing the national anthem at a Celtics-Sixers game in Boston. If they had used the names of the real Pats' who wore those jerseys, it would've read, \"Gay Law,\" for defensive backs Randall Gay and Ty Law.

had to give this a bump when i saw this article...

gay is okay! but now our good friends south of the rio grande are forbidden!

i hope the nfl sees the irony in all of this and realizes that there are bigger problems in professional sports (the recent articles on out college athletes gives me hope) than the occasional queer linesman, or any, even obtuse association with anything gay!
