A friend and former co-worker of mine tackled an ironman last July, and his partner kept a great journal of it. It's the kind of story we're always looking for - check it out:
Adam Sanderson - an ironman

Some years ago, I would have read the story as a kind of Readers Digest "Profiles in Courage" story, but I read it more as race journal. There have always been guys-who-like-guys in sports, but there are more of them taking their part in what they really want to do or is more native to their interests. In simpler terms, I am really pleased to read of a guy doing a race and, as an aside, they happen to like guys.
Ceour d'Alene is a great site, and increasingly popular site for a race.
Thanks for the report. Adam, you are a big man and Rich, "standy by your man."

Thanks for the article and link, Cyd! I finished my first Olympic-distance tri last weekend, with the ultimate goal of someday doing an iron-distance race. This story gives me the motivation to continue to train, even when I don't want to.

Thanks, pr!
But I disagree about Adam being an "unlikely" Ironman. A 12-hour finish on his first IM? The guy definitely has talent, both in speed and endurance. I wish him a long and happy tri career, even as he kicks my a$$ at Gay Games.
