Full Version: Say Hello to Scooter, Kids!!

Anyone who remembers Peter Puck will now have a new animated sports figure to add to their memory banks. Fox will introduce Scooter, an animated baseball, on the broadcast of the Red Sox/Yankees game in the hope of helping kids better understand the game. the guy who voices "Sponge Bob" will provide Scooter's voice. This is all part of the Fox Television's attempt to make broadcasts more appealing to a younger demographic--evil commissioner Bud Selig is trying to get all the tv partners to do the same. Oh boy!!! Scooter the Baseball!!

Sounds to me like that annoying paperclip that pops up on my computer asking if I need help typing my letter. rolleyes.gif

Haha G4G. I hate that paperclip!!

I can't wait for Scooter to pop up with one of those old doctor lights around his head and holding a syringe to teach the youngsters the appropriate way to inject steroids without getting caught.

I changed my paperclip to a floppy-eared, tongue-hanging-out dog. Getting help from a paperclip seemed too much like a windowpane-induced flashback!

I hope Scooter wears sunglasses when he's used for games in Florida!

Red windowpane RULES. Blotter sucks. I wish I could find a stash of Orange Sunshine though.

So, they're going to annoy the f**k out of all the adults so Missy and Junior can learn the infield fly rule? This is even worse than the "flaming puck" that Fox used during NHL games. I really enjoy explaining baseball or opera to people, but I absolutely refuse to talk down to them and kids can spot that in a second.

I've been switching between 5 different channels all night. Now 4 of the baseball and hockey games are over, and the Fox game was all that's left. So a few minutes ago I got to see Scooter explain what a fastball is.

Really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really.... rolleyes.gif

While it gave me a nice, diversional laugh as my Yankees were looking horrible last night, this was typical FOX stupidity. The first time they tried to show "Scooter", he could be barely be heard. I know that Joe Buck and Tim McCarver (whom I find both just as annoying as "Scooter") were obviously embarassed by this. I was also thinking as they were showing "Scooter" again at 10.45 at night: "What six-year-old child would be up at this time--especially watching this thing?".

I only saw one of those Scooter pieces. It was supposed to explain how a knuckleball works. Basically, all it did was show a ball zigging and zagging through the air--much more exagerated than a ball would really travel. No mention of the grip used, or why the ball moves erratically. I couldn't entirely hear or understand what Scooter was saying, but it certainly didn't help me understand how a knuckleball works. I don't see how it could help (or event interest) a kid.

Any truth to the rumor that Joe Buck and Scooter went clubbing after the game? biggrin.gif

I heard that the FBI was investigating Joe Buck because he had allegedly contacted a hitman to have Scooter killed. Apparently these things happen all the time in sports.
