We have compiled a thorough
list of anti-gay slurs made over the years by athletes. Check it out, along with who got how many Rockers and let us know if we missed anyone.

The Rocker scale. Hilarious!

Love the idea of the Rocker scale.
Technically, Allen Iverson's rap album didn't bomb. To be a bomb, an album has to actually be released and then fail to sell. His album never saw the light of day.

I'm just too bad at researching to find the full reference, but would Martina Hingis' calling Amelie Mauresmo "half a man" be a homophobic slur? And surely there are some other slurs from women out there? Or no?

Instead of looking at the negative, what would be more enjoyable is a list of athletes who have made gay-supportive statements. Especially in response to questions about having a gay teammate. Has anyone done any research on that.

I totally agree with you, Tarheel. That was the first thought that crossed my mind when I saw the headline on the page this morning. I get awfully tired of being reminded that there are folks out there looking for a reason to hate us, insult us, fear us...whatever.

Good points, Tarheel, but we felt that there have been enough anti-gay slurs that it was a good idea to compile them in one place. We are working on putting together a list of positive comments made in the sports world. Unfortunately, positive comments should be the norm but often aren't.

Jim -
Good work on the Slurs article. It just confirms what we've known all along: what morons most homophobes are!

I enjoyed the Rocker rating system. Since he is the way by which you rate people-he should be in the Hall of Shame for anti-gay slurs. How can you rate someone with themselves?? He is THE ROCKER.
I do agree with y'all that we put too much emphasis on anti gay quotes and not enough on positive gay news, but I did see the humor in the rating system (if not in the hateful slurs).
It would be great to have a page highlighting those people in sports who have been quoted with positive things to say about being gay or about gay people.

WFAN personality uses the word "faggot" on the air:
Hey is anyone listening to or watching the Mike and the Mad Dog sports show on WFAN in New York City this afternoon? I can't believe what I'm hearing! I am actually watching the show on the YES network. Two of the morning personalities were questioning (in a joking way) Chris Russo a.k.a. Mad Dog's sexuality because he passed up watching the Giants game to go to a wedding. One of the guys named Sid went as far to say "only faggots play tennis" as a way of poking fun at Russo since he must have some reputation for missing football games in the past to play tennis. Russo quickly interrupted Sid by saying that was offensive to homosexuals.
And then later on Sid used the word "faggot" again as his way of defining masculinity and sports! Is this allowable by the FCC? Not only is he using the word "faggot" at will, but he is also demeaning tennis players and of course he is degrading gays.
I got to believe WFAN is going to be in major trouble for this.

So are we going to add WFAN's Sid Rosenberg to the anti-gays slur list based on his comments on yesterday afternoon's Mike and the Mad Dog show?

The Outsports Anti-Gay list seems to be intended for athletes and team personnel, not radio show hosts.
Since you heard it you should write the FCC and complain, like these people are doing about the ABC MNF opening.

Amazin12, missed your first post on this yesterday. I agree with you that Rosenberg's comments are offensive. Having listened to him on the Imus morning show, they are not that uncommon for him. He's not the Michael Savage of sports talk radio, but let's not let him get there eh? My suggestion would be to call WFAN or even the FCC and complain about his offensive remarks. Best case scenario he apologizes, worst case scenario, he joins Opie and Anthony on satilite radio...
As far as the anti-gay slurs list, I think that list was reserved for actual sports athletes or employees of sports teams not "sports reporters" such as Sid Rosenberg. Jim@Outsports will correct me if I'm wrong since he wrote the piece.
** edited to add ** I'm also glad that Chris Russo called Sid Rosenberg out on the offensive comments right away. Kudos to him.
