I recently spoke at the National Women’s College Coaches Lacrosse association. The turnout was tremendous, and the enthusiasm for the subject amazing. There was/is also an amazing generational difference between older coaches and younger (something I’ve found in much of my research). Then, when speaking to several universities lately, lacrosse players have shown up to my talks voluntarily, to outright show support. More and more it seems it’s not heterosexuals wresting with whether they will accept gay teammates or not, rather it is gay athletes and coaches still fearing nothing but fear itself. I am truly encouraged by the amazing support I have heard from athletes this year. Attitudes are markedly different than they were just a few years ago. People, mostly journalists, often make the mistake of assuming sports to be a very intolerant atmosphere, and they then generalize those erroneous findings to the lower levels of sport. Athletes may still be more macho/intolerant than those not in sports, but they seem to be well into the land of tolerance and perhaps most are in the land of celebration of their teammate’s diversity. As queers, we need to begin to expect that we will be met with acceptance, but I know how hard the unreasonable grip of fear is to break. Kudos to this player, and to the literally thousands of openly gay athletes at the high school and collegiate levels.

Hey Frustrated Coach, another way to look at that survey, is to realize that all those taking it, and all those reporting their scores (on the lacrosse site) are willing to post that they are not 100% heterosexual! That's fantastic! I read those threads and see a true understanding that sexuality is not always either/or, and I believe it indicates a breakdown of homophobia. I fount it hillarious that the one individual upset about the link had to say "i'm straight" which, most likely means he's the one that's not, and is thus overly sensitive. Still, sexuality is opening up, polarized notions are dying, and these players and coaches are implicitly and explicitly showing that they understand that. So, three cheers for that link, and for those lacross players and coaches who are stating their names to their not 100% heterosexual findings!!!!
Myself, I won't take the test, I'm too afraid I might show up not 100% gay. God, that would be awful! wink

Not much activity on that board, or at least that topic -- it was started on March 19th and it took about 3 weeks for someone to comment.
As for the quiz, that's been around for awhile (I think it might have been started when the original British version of Queer As Folk premiered). I think I scored right in the middle somewhere, but it was so long ago I don't know.

33% on the quiz. But I would have skipped the ones that probably made it that high if it were allowed, because the wording ties you down. That's the main reason I usually avoid that kind of test all together. Don't recall seeing that specific one before, but probably didn't take it if I did.
I find most of the comments on that website fairly innocuous and not intended to be harmful. Most of the posters seem fairly sophisticated and modern in their views. Not surprising from lacrosse. Wonder how folks on a men's ice hockey or men's wrestling board would respond. Both tend to be more sensitive about their masculinity for some reason IMO.
Wrestling because it's a full contact sport in skimpy outfits and ice hockey because it's associated with skating (known to most folks as that sissy, graceful ice-dancing stuff that causes so much controversy in scoring in the olympics), I think would have produced more homophobic responses.
Overall I found the comments on that board encouraging.

SCARY SCARY SCARY......
Those of you that may have known me in Philadelphia, may NOT be surprised at my results LOL. Yes it was the clothing and grooming questions that got me but I openly admit to being a clothes horse. LOL just ask my personal shopper at Boyd's, Nieman Marcus, or Wayne Edwards. I guess the deep voice, pickup truck, and the fact that I used to swing a hammer for a living are all just an act.

Spanky is 46% gay. I think it is becasue I am not into lesbian pornography. It is interesting to read what Gumby writes about the acceptance in sports of gay athletes. I do not doubt it. It is really encouraging. My experience in the bike industry and in cycling over the last 15 years has been hyper-homophobic. When I was working for Scheels AllSports in Iowa City, I was constantly being verbally abused by a coworker in the year 2000. When I reported it I was told to deal with it, even though another coworker backed me up. When I worked for Quality Bicycle Products I was constantly bombarded with the issue. I didn't have a girlfriend or talk about my sex life at all. The owner of the company even gave me a bad reference. I have heard since that he has made remarks about lesbians. Whenever I hear a conversation from the local trail Nazi's, MOCA, it always involves slurs and gay bashing. And sadly this was today at One On One bike shop in Minneapolis. All the shops that advertise as being gay friendly really are not. There is always the constant reminder that I am not welcome or they just want my money. When I stop and look back, wow did I put up with a lot of shit.
It might just be regional.
It is ironic here because a gay guy built all the inner city dirt trails that MOCA is queer bashing over and has ruined. Their stupidity is truly oblivious, clueless.
40% gay here. Of course, when it came to the 'leather pants' question, there was no response like "too damn cheap to buy them".

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to revcover one: Drew Brees from the clutches of heterodoomism, and deposit him at the agreed location which I will PM you in a highly secret code known and understood only by full members of the official gay mafiosi.

The idea seems to be that straight guys (or gay guys who can pass for straight) can get other straight guys to show up in various places, generally in a state of undress. I find this belief extremely attractive, but highly unlikely. If I could get hot straight guys tied up and naked on beds, what would I be doing wasting time at a computer?

Okay, I know these questionaires are just a joke but I think some people really believe sexuality is more than your sexual desire and habits . I took it out of curiosity thinking if I said I sleep only with men and I'm not turn on to lesbian porn that should make me well over 50% gay right. But I scored a lousy 16% gay. Well I may not be 100% but I'm at least 80% or 90%. The only reason I don't say 100% is because I still occasionally have sexual dreams with women. They're asking the wrong questions. If they asked me more about my sexual habits and interests I'd tip the scale.
There are plenty of things like trimming pubic hair that st8 men do now. In fact their girlfriends like them to shave it all off. So I'm not sure what that has to do with sexuality.
