Many of you have read the great piece on Blake, the high school basketball star wrestling with coming out.

We now offer a very inpsirational column by a college skier who took the plunge and came out to his team. It is in his own words and I encourage you to read it.

Excellent article. Another Outsports success story!

Thanks to Cyd and Jim for posting the column and, most importantly, big kudos to our fellow Outsporter Jordan for sharing such a truly inspiring, personal story with us....while seeing a professional "star" athlete publicly come out would be terrific, knowing that there are young, gay athletes like "Blake" (the Indiana high school basketball player) and Jordan among us bodes well for the future.

Thanks for sharing your story, Jordan. It's great to hear about the positive reactions -- it looks like things have improved at Williams in the 10 years since I was there. Keep it up and GO EPHS (it's nice to be able to say that without irony)...

So, 2 weeks ago I am reading the original Jocks, when I come to a story about a hockey captain at a small New England College - my very own Williams! I was even more surprised to find out he attended Williams while I was still there. Then this morning I log on to Outsports and find another Eph courageously telling his story. Jordan's tale is quite a pick-up after a gloomy weekend and a great sign that if progress ever comes to this country on gay issues, it will be the younger generation that brings it about.

If bridgeportjake thinks Williams has changed since he's been there - think about the change over the past (gulp) 18 years, since I was a Freshman (oh, sorry, First-Year Student, in the college's new politically correct lingo). That year, the big controversy was that no one wanted to live in the Berkshire Quad housing section, because that's were all the gays and lesbians supposedly lived. Quite a different story less than a generation later.

Contgratulations to Jordan on making it past the worst part of coming out - the anxiety over people's reactions. Had I known how great my own friends and family were going to be, I wouldn't have waited until I was 33 to do it. And Good Luck at the upcoming meet during Williams' Winter Carnival (coming up in just 2 weeks, right?).
