Four soccer players in Bulgaria were expelled from their team for having sex together in the locker room.

Story

Homophobia or good business practice?

I think the gay aspect is rather irrelevant. They were having an orgy in the locker room. I don't know how that's not grounds for immediate dismissal anywhere. But a helluva way to go!

Imagine what they would have done to the Minnesota Vikings players for their boat party.

Ideas on sexuality are much different in Eastern Bloc countries. I think they're social acceptance of sex, even gay sex in public is fifty years behind us in the states because of years of government oppression. It's almost like it was in the 1950's in America. Deep denial and fear of the unknown.

I agree that it's not the smartest thing to have sex at work. And they did make their own choice knowing of the possible consequences.

I'm not quite sure what I think about the story, but I do like how today's featured member on the home page is a soccer fan from Bulgaria.

Made me laugh a bit. biggrin.gif

He's one of 2 Bulgarians in the Clubhouse, but we need to get those 4 soccer players to submit profiles.

This is a third-class soccer team, located in a rich suburb of the second largest city in Bulgaria. People in this port town of 400,000 are much more tolerant and open-minded.

Apparently, after a soccer game they lost, four of the team members decided to have some fun in the shower. The captain of the team, quite effeminate and already rumored to be gay, was the one 'helping out' the other three in the locker room. Aye, aye, Captain!!!

All four have been kicked out of the team. They have decided to register their own team, based in the same city, and compete in tournaments.

First of all; sex in public places is a taboo just about in all countries of the world except in situations that it may occur in the woods or jungle such as among New Guinea Tribemen or in former times in Polynesia and Samoa ---where according to Margaret Meade and other anthropologists at least in heterosexual relationships the newly married are expected to have sex in front of all wedding guests. However, Bulgaria and the rest of the world does not have this custom and never did.

Bulgaria is still having a massive hangover from the Stalinist days and the influence of the Russian and Greek Orthodox Church who are rabid homophobes despite many of their priests and monks are gay and have been involved in various scandals. Gay people are sometimes their worst enemies because the provide the fodder which anti-gay people use against us. If you think the Pope is a homophobe and closet Nazi; you should have heard the vitriolic speeches condemning gays people as the very essence of evil by Metropolitan of Moscow a few years ago.

Under the laws from those earlier days----homosexuality was to understate the matter illegal in Russia and Bulgaria and at one point could bring a person a death sentence. In Bulgaria and Russia today---gays are looked upon as sick, someone to be pittied, someone who is very immoral and someone to put down and have no respect for.

The excuse for terminating the players is a none excuse. These players did not damage the team's good name what they did do is damage themselves and renforced one of the stereotypes of gay people.

It does not matter where the event happened in the Western World even in the Netherlands, noted for it's tolerance, the terminating of the players involved would have been the same.

For the Gay Community worldwide trying to gain the acceptance and tolerance of heterosexuals ---this event is more harmful to us than the club.
The holy rollers and the American Family Association (and similar organizations worldwide), the Moral Majority folks and family values folks will grab ahold of this and play it for all of it's propaganda value. They will say "see gay people do nothing but have sex all day ---that is what being gay all about. Sex Sex Sex. They are so immature that they can not form any stable relationships with anyone". It is these same people who are denying us our Human and Civil Rights world wide by using ourselves against us. Gay people are some of their worst own enemies. If you do not think that they( the values people etc) will then look at some of the film of some of the Boston Gay Pride event that they filmed and now use as propaganda againt gay people portraying us as freaks, perverts, people who can not hold a job, and the stereotype goes on and on.

I am no prude but gay sex especially anonymous sex of anykind in public is just in very bad form and one never does this on the job as these guys did--unless you are porno star. Promiscuous sex has the downside of being able to kill those involved---HIV, TB, and Hepatitis are just sone of the dangers not to mention being preyed upon by vice police officers and hustlers who just might kill you afterwards. Public anonymous sex robs gay people of their dignity, their self esteem and reduces anyone who engages in it to the level of a piece of meat or inanimate object that to be used or used and then thrown away.

Have more respect for yourself and others just do not do it unless you have known the person sometime and then please take precautions so you do not come down with some disease that will kill you.

Would it not be better to find folks who respect you, love you as a friend, maybe to do things with after sex, or maybe get involved with an LT relationship with? Yes anonymous public sex feels good but what is left afterwards--a veil of emptyness and loneliness.

First of all, just to be clear, were they having gay sex or sex? smile.gif

Who does it hurt if a couple of guys are bonding in a locker room shower, a private one? It wasn't a public space...

Who busted them, and who made such a big deal out of it? Guys are guys, and why can't everyone just mind their own business?

I could be wrong, but it may be that people are assuming that they were pro players and getting paid to play football. Just because they are a club does not mean they are professional, in fact it sounds as though they were working toward becoming a pro team. Given this thought, they would not be playing around on the job. They would be kicked off of a team that they were not being paid to play for; this, in my humble opinion, would not make it the same as having sex at the workplace. Appropriate? Hard to say. Arousing intrest? Most certainly.

If I were the coach: If I were the coach and wanted to do the best thing for my club team, I woould evaluate the ramifications of team dynamics after the discovery that players were having sex in the locker room. I would talk with each individual player and get opinions of how they felt and would react. If the team would fall apart, I would dismiss the players for conduct detrimental to team moral. (if they were not caught in the locker-room this would be different) If the players were fine with having gay players (which I feel most young players would be these days), I would keep the players on the team and openly discuss inclusion of all people. (heck, the recognition from the media could help get that professional status)

It's wrong. Plain and simple. It's hot and it's something I would do in a heartbeat. But it's wrong.

Kids please... Don't jack where you work.

Don't make me question my Big Mac's secret sauce.

Some recent development: the local District Attorney anounced he would investigate the case. He also clarified that only the 'sex in public' part falls into his jurisdiction and nobody will be presecuted solely on the basis of sexual orientation. Bulgaria recently adopted European Union anti-discrimantion laws but, if convicted, the four guys will face up to two years in jail on the 'sex in public' charge.

Perhaps a good lawyer for him would be Ivan Penev who is supposedly studying international and criminal law according to his profile as a finalist in the Mr Gay 2006 competition. smile.gif

Especially since

"The winner will serve as a spokesman to raise the visibility of gay men, humanize gays in the media, create a positive role model and confront homophobia in today's culture."

Making sure that "public sex" is treated as such and not punished more because it is gay sex, would be a pretty good assignment.

We posted a translation of the original article from the Bulgarian, thanks to Chip Rogers. The language used in the translation is pretty hysterical, so we decided to share it with everyone.

I suppose we can rule out bicycle kicks by Bulgarian soccer players for a while.

Very curious and very funny but also sad and disappointing. Any pics of the quad involved?

When I was in college, the locker room showers were known as one of the cruisier spots on campus. Most of the people involved – IMO – were not jocks. When I was teaching, there were a several incidents of the police arresting people in the University locker room showers for this kind of behavior. So this is hardly uncommon or isolated behavior.

Frankly, behavior like this (though an admitted fantasy) always pissed me off for some reason. Although I don’t consider myself a prude, the locker rooms and showers are there for the public use. I always considered it extremely rude – at the very least – that people would have sex publicly, and thus publicly declare their contempt for everyone else who might wander in to that facility to use it.

Cruise all you want, but find someplace private to have sex.

I drove my bike through Bulgaria a couple months ago and can tell you that, with a few exceptions, the climate is not very tolerant of gays. Their acceptance of EC non discrimination rules is a matter of economic interest and hardly an every day reality.

When I was in university there was a Professor who always managed to be in the locker room when we were showering after swim practice. He had no reason to be there, and was kind of creepy. Most guys simply showered , dried off, dressed and left. A few complained about him but nothing happened. A couple of guys occassionally put on a show for him, but that did not go so far as sex rolleyes.gif

The translation was so funny! Where did they get those quotes? Sounded like lines from a porno!!! Especially the one by the host, who's jaw dropped because he had never seen anyting like that in person before (which makes me think he had seen it on a video before...).
