When the backers of the upcoming U.S. gay channel get things up and running, I certainly hope they get some sports folks from this site to help them create sports programming. I could this element being ignored, except for occasional profile pieces on gay athletes, which would be great, but it also would be wonderful to have gay sports fans and writers covering the various sports out there.
What do you all think?

"OutsportsTV" Hey, I like the sound of that!
If this new channel does cover sports from a gay perspective, I just hope they don't go the PrideTV (Canada) "Locker Room" route, turning gays and sports into a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" job. I was once interviewed by PrideTV on behalf of my soccer team, and the questioning quickly turned to "Why do people find soccer players so HOT? Is it those short shorts and sexy legs?" Ick.

Well, SEPH, it was probably your short shorts and sexy legs that distracted them from the real issues.

If Anna Kournakova can make the cover of SI without winning a major tournament, then I think there is a place on a gay channel for shows like "Locker Room." However, that shouldn't be the total sports content. Hopefully someone can put together a hybrid that has the fun of "Locker Room" and the gravitas of OutSports.

Until there are more players who are 'out' humor may be the only way to get 'in' the door for the subject of gays and sports. I agree it would be better to be joshed in a non-hostile manner than allow ignorance to continue to create an at best unwelcoming and at worst dangerous environment for the gaysportsguy.
Lots of minorities have entered by the back door of comedy. It allows people to laugh at their prejudices.

On
The Team sports radio in Toronto this morning they interviewed the guy that hosts "Locker Room" on Pride TV.
I only caught the end of the interview. It was mostly good-natured humour--speculation of the events at the Gay Games; the gay guy suggesting that if he got to throw out the first pitch at the proposed Gay Day at the SkyDome, that one of the straight hosts could "catch."
Romanuk and Richards are cool guys, with no anti-gay sentiments on their show at all.
