Full Version: Great Coming Out Piece by an Ex-Collegiate Runner

In continuing with our tradition of bringing you compelling first-person accounts from gay jocks, we recommend this piece by Billy Glover, a former cross country runner. I esepecially like the denial many of his teammates were in, including one funny incident.

If you like these pieces, we urge you to write these authors and tell them your thoughts. Thanks!

Loved it!

The beer-drinking ritual is one I went through with my brother and a cousin when I was about the same age. I don't remember numbers but do remember their surprise at how much I put down.

I felt like a total idiot when I went home and told my mother I was totally sauced before spending the night upchucking in the bathroom.

Seems funny now but I was so ashamed of myself then. Not because I was drunk but because I allowed them to define masculinity for me and was suckered into thinking that they finally wanted me to be "one of the guys" when they just thought they'd have the pleasure of seeing me do something stupid while I was drunk.

Since I remember every second of that sorry experience, I don't think they got much satisfaction.

Sounds like a pretty terrific guy! Outsports knocks another one out of the park with a great article.

I enjoyed the article to. Hopefully the barriers will continue to break down for collegiate athletes.
