I just read in the Sunday NY Times that the Joe Mantello-directed play Take Me Out, written by Richard Greenberg, will open in NY in late August. Supposedly it has been running in London to mixed reviews. If anyone should see it I'd like to hear a review.

A review in the July 22 New Yorker was pretty much a rave. I can only hope the actor who plays the gay ballplayer does the New York run. If any of you saw the first episode of the current season of "Sex and the City," he played the sailor from Louisiana who danced with Sarah Jessica Parker. He is extremely easy on the eye.

Edited because correct spelling is our friend.

A friend reviewed it in London and thought it was superb. His review is being held until the play begins its New York run. BTW, I understand there is extended, full-frontal male nudity as the actors shower, etc.

Tickets for this play "Take Me Out" go on sale Friday August 9th at the Public Theater. Grant Show from Melrose Place stars as the superstar ballplayer who is coming to terms with being gay and being a professional ballplayer. No, I don't work for this production. I just want everyone to see it!!

if I'm not mistaken, this was based on a novel with a similar title by a gentleman called Bookbinder. My recollection of the story is that is was so-so, with some obvious jokes running it. I hope the play does well; I look forward to hearing from you New York fellas on how well it turned out.

Well, there's been so much talk about this play that my friend's review was actually printed in this week's Village Voice. Here's a link.

\"Take Me Out\"

In addition, Theatermania.com has asked him to write a more in-depth review when the play opens here in NYC, and he's also written an article on it for the October issue of "Vogue."

For those slightly confused by a particular reference in the above story, the word "douche" is used in Europe to mean its original German usage of "shower" rather than the American meaning.
