I know that Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia is a lock cinch for Manager of the Year, barring a collapse of Angel-esque proportions. But is there any manager in baseball who is getting more out of less this year than MIKE HARGROVE?
This includes Frank Robinson of the 60-61 Les Expos de Montreal. At least Frank has som real talent on his roster, players such as Vladimir Guerrero, Jose Vidro and Javier "Junior" Vazquez. Grover has nobody.
The Baltimore Orioles' record stands at 59-62. That's extreme over-achievement from a talent-less crew with possibly the worst ownership situation in baseball (although, the competition for that title is huge and stiff). How talent-less? Quick: name two players on their team. Cal's gone, so try two others. Albert "Joey" Belle doesn't count, even if they are still paying his enormous salary. Their best player is, who?, Jeff Conine? Buddy Groom? Actually, their team MVP is probably Jorge Julio. Or is it Julio Jorge? ERA of 1.88, 25 saves. Yeah, like any of us that coming.
Even better: Jorge Julio is yet another in that long line of baseball hotties straight outta Venezuela.
Hargrove, however, is the real true Manager of the Year at this point.
