FIVE-RING FEVER

QUOTE
The Bethesda Center of Excellence will host a U.S. Olympic Team Trials qualifier in whitewater slalom on March 7. The top five finishers in men's kayak, the top three in women's kayak and men's single canoe and the top two boats in two-man canoe could qualify for the Olympic team trials in April. The qualifer will be held, depending on water levels, at either the Dickerson Whitewater Course in Dickerson, Md., or the Feeder Canal on the Potomac in Bethesda. Visit bce-racing.com.
The Dickerson Whitewater Course is actually the exit sluice for cooling water leaving the heat exchanger at the coal-fired Mirant power plant located in Dickerson, Maryland, which is in the far western corner of Montgomery County. The water is warm year-round. Some of the course is accessible without entering the grounds of the power plant, but to attend this event, one is required to sign a waiver. The waivers are available from a link at the bce-racing.com website in a .pdf format.
