The Red Sox have hired Cleveland Indian bench coach Grady Little as their new manager. This after former Twins manager Tom Kelly declined to be interviewed. I had heard Felipe Alou was interviewed, but that money became an issue. Is that right?

Lucchino likes playing GM, and he needs a manager who's been in the trenches -- Little's had plenty of experience in the minors. The players reportedly like him too.

Last weekend, a poll of Boston Globe readers showed Alou as first choice for manager by about 75%, but on the boards I've read tonight, people seem generally happy with Little's selection. Having said "No thanks" last summer, Alou was a long shot, but it was good of them to double check.
