Full Version: Ian Thorpe Torpedoed

Ian Thorpe was in the news today. Unfortunately, it was not because his Speedos were so tight that they blew apart from the strain. Rather, he lost his balance on the starting block of the 400-meter freestyle meet and fell in the pool. The rule is one strike, and you're out, even if you're the holder of the world record in the event. Accordingly he will not swim in the Olympics in that event.

Thorpe Out

QUOTE
For more than five years Thorpe has dominated the 400m freestyle, in which he hold the world record and is the Olympic and world champion.
You know you want to see these

I was bummed to read that. Put an asterisk next to that event.

Apparently Thorpe is over it already and doesn't plan to challenge the decision.

Very classy!!! Its great to see someone in sports be this classy and not cry about the mistake. I think its a real shame the way it happened but what a great example hes setting. Theres a hell of a lot of people that could learn a thing or two about class from Ian. Great move, Ian you have even more respect from me than before. A world class swimmer with a world class attitude

Interesting that he doesn't seem to say flat out he's straight.......just kinda dismisses it, although it could be a classy way to say it I guess.
