The agreement is one year, $1 million. Later today the Mets are going to announce they've reached a multi-million dollar deal with me to stand at first base watching ground balls roll by, swing at first pitches, and never hit.
Grrr...

Surely they're not expecting him to start? I figure he might be good off the bench for a young team like the Mets, but that's it.

I don't think this is such a bad signing. He can help piazza out at first base a bit, plus he was mildly successful for us in 2000.
It's certainly a better signing than the yankee reject shane spencer and the yankee criminal karim garcia...

Wait--the Mets signed Shane Spencer? Hmmm...if he makes the team I'll have to make sure to see them. I've never seen that butt in person.

Wow Shane Spencer? Todd Zeile? Why would the other NL teams even bother playing this year...just give the Mets the pennant now!
PS-I love Todd Zeile. On my all time sexiest athlete list. But he can't do much to contribute these days.

Hmm, yeah, that is some nice big trunk to spot. But Joe, you might have to wait a bit. Shane signed a minor league deal, so there's no guarantee he'll be playing that often for the Mets.

I agree with you, George. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I used to drive by his home in Thousand Oaks, CA hoping against hope to see him, preferably sunbathing in his front yard.

Funny, I hear Joe Buck used to do the same thing...
