Just got an e-mail from the SFO:

Opera meets Baseball

See General Director Pamela Rosenberg throw the first pitch at Pac Bell Park tonight at 7:30 PM when the San Francisco Giants play the Atlanta Braves.

David Okerlund, who plays Escamillo in the June/July performances of Bizet’s Carmen will sing the National Anthem.

Since Ms. R has spent the last 20+ years in Europe, I'd guess she has a better soccer kick than a pitching arm

I'll be there tonight. If there's anything to report, I'll post it here. The singer better not freeze up in chilly weather, it was damn cold at last night's game. Not to mention the 5.2 quake that shook the whole stadium, with hardly anybody noticing! The game was that close!

By the way, the upcoming season schedule for the SF Opera is very strong. Probably the best line-up of operas here in SF for a very, very long time.

Well, it wasn't really a big deal. The new opera director wore this really funky baseball cap with some kind of Wagnerian valkyrie wings on each side. She could throw though, she just about threw it over the catcher's head! I tell you, these women in opera professions can outbutch most everybody on this board!

The baritone that sang the Banner wasn't that impressive, but a definite cut above their regular cast of joe regulars. People at ballgames aren't used to the sound and style of singing from trained opera voices, so it just seemed weird to everyone. But, they being a very proper SF crowd, cheered profusely.

And we beat the Braves 2-0, making it 2 out of 4 so far for the SF GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!
