Everyone into the pool!

Here are the rules: The names of 102 current NHL players included on the Olympic Rosters of the "Big Six" teams (CAN, CZE, FIN, RUS, SWE, USA) are included in the groups below. (I've also noted their NHL team.)

All you have to do is choose any ONE player from each of the four groups of forwards, the two groups of defensemen, the two groups of goalies, and any TWO players from each of the two Wild Card groups. In the end, you’ve got a total of TWELVE players on your "Team."

Points are awarded as follows: Goal - 1 point; Assist - 1 point; Win (for goalies only) - 1 point; Shut-out (for goalies only) - 3 points. I’ll post the standings on a daily basis. The winner will be the Outsports Member whose "Team" has accumulated the most points at the end of the tourney.

This pool is for *FUN* only. The winner will only receive the glory, bragging rights, and unending praise from all Outsports Olympic hockey fans. But that’s enough, ain’t it?

Submissions are due BEFORE 9:00 a.m. PST, Friday, February 15th. No one can join and no player trades are allowed after that deadline, no exceptions. Submit your selections to: sephmontreal@hotmail.com My picks will be posted late Thursday, Feb. 14th.

NOTES: 1) The team rosters come directly from the NHL/Olympic site. If any player listed is currently injured, or becomes injured between now and the submission deadline, the onus is on you to find that out! 2) Overtime shoot-out goals WILL count as goals. 3) Remember, countries that finish Gold-Silver-Bronze-4th Place will all be playing the SAME number of games.

Good luck to all. Go for the Gold!

Aussiebomber, a problem I see with your selection is the goalies. You chose Belfour (Canada) but he is more like the third goalie and I don't know if he will be playing at all. Joseph is starting the first game for Canada and Brodeur will also play in the first round. That is part of the reason why I picked Hasek. I believe he will play all the games for his team.

I am not aware of the first goalie for the US team. Puckman keeps wishing for Richter, so Barasso may not play in many games. I prefer Khabibulin anyway.

Being so far away, it is difficult for you to know the lineups. I picked Simon Gagné but learned yesterday he will not play in the first game for Canada, maybe he will take the place of Ryan Smith in a future game. I changed my selection since I know Gagné will miss at least one game.

Some nice picks in there, Aussie B. Thanks for joining up!

Like in any pool, anything can happen - ya never know! But it makes watching the games even more fun, imo.

We've got 11 players in the pool. I'll try to post the standings (in a new thread) at the end of every day with games. Good luck, poolies! And thanks for playing!
