After Polish advocate's anti-gay remarks, San Francisco supervisor moves to rename street after Gay Games founder

San Francisco Supervisor Jane Kim is reportedly set to propose changing the name of her city's Lech Walesa Street after the former Polish human-rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner made anti-gay remarks. The new name would be Tom Waddell Street, after the Gay Games founder and San Francisco resident who died of AIDS in 1987.

Walesa has come under fire saying that gays should not have a prominent place in politics, and that they should sit in the back of Parliament, or "even behind the wall."

The street in question is a one-block alley a half-block south of City Hall. The San Francisco Department of Health, including the Tom Waddell Health Center, currently sit on said street.

The news comes after Supervisor David Campos, who was instrumental in securing the city's support of The Last Closet, announced his intention to rename San Francisco Airport after gay former supervisor Harvey Milk.
