New
York Panel on Gays in Sports
Brendan Lemon, whose Out magazine
column about his affair with a gay major leaguer kicked off a major
league media guessing game, is among a stellar panel
for a discussion on homosexuality and sports in New York on July 25.
``Out in the Locker Room, Out in the
Press Box: Gays, Sports and the Sports Media'' is sponsored by
the New York Chapter for the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists
Association. The event will be held Wednesday, July 25, 7 p.m. at
Bloomberg News, 59th Street and Park Avenue (enter on Park).
Scheduled panelists:
Brendan Lemon, editor, Out magazine
Robert Lipsyte, sports columnist, The New York Times
Sally Jenkins, The Washington Post, co-author of books with
several sports
figures
Johnette Howard, sports columnist, Newsday
Dan Woog, author of "Jocks: True Stories of America's
Gay Male Athletes"
Bill Konigsberg, assistant editor, ESPN.com
The Lemon story is expected to be a major topic, as well as the
WNBA's aggressive marketing to the lesbian market.
The cost for NLGJA members is $10; non-members $15; and free if you
join NLGJA at the event.
