GLISA Reopens Bidding for 2nd OutGames

Vancouver - “GLISA will reopen the bidding process for the 2nd World Outgames in 2009,” Rachel Corbett, executive director of the organization, has announced. “This decision was made in response to expressions of interest from several cities in Europe and North America, with the agreement of Games Berlin.”

GLISA will continue to work with Games Berlin e.V., which submitted their intention to bid in September but has placed that on hold pending its initiative to host a reconciliation meeting of the LGBT sport movement.

“We look forward to the progress of Games Berlin’s reconciliation initiative but in the meantime we will continue to explore possibilities for our 2009 event with Games Berlin and other interested cities” commented Geoff Lyne, GLISA Board of Directors member and head of GLISA’s site selection process.  The deadline for the submission of the 2009 bids is now March 30, 2005.

MONTREAL 2006 SITE VISIT

Corbett also announced that members of the GLISA Board of Directors and Executive Director’s office are planning a site visit to Montréal 2006 competition sites before the end of this year to inspect the progress of the organization of sporting events currently in place.

“And by the spring of 2005,” Corbett explained, “we will be able to expand on this analysis by inviting respected independent experts in the world of sport to Montréal with us to verify the quality of the city’s sport infrastructures as well as the financial health of Montréal 2006.”

A public report will be made available as a result of these analyses so that athletes and participants can be assured that they will find unparalleled sport facilities and a solid administrative foundation leading to the most financially viable games in the history of the games movement.
