Team Flame Looking For
Athletes
Team Flame, a team of athletes
promoting elite athleticism, sport and fitness to the gay and
lesbian community as well as to the world at large, promoting
equality through sport for all people, is attempting to recruit up
to 10 resident athletes for 2001. Athletes may represent any
sport but must have professional status within their sport or must
have qualified for the National Championship as a amateur within
their sport. Athletes will be required to wear the Team Flame jersey
incorporating all sponsor logos.
Resident Athletes (Pilot Flames) will
represent their sport and mission statement of Team Flame, promoting
elite athleticism, sport and fitness to the gay and lesbian
community. One goal for Team Flame in 2001 is to establish support
groups for gay and lesbian athletes within the NCAA and act as
mentors for gay / lesbian athletes entering into professional
athletics.
You may also become an Affiliate
Athlete. Affiliate athletes are established Professional / Elite Amateurs
within their sport who are willing to act as mentors to the Resident
team and help promote Team Flame, their sport, and gay / lesbian
athletics. The only difference is - affiliates are not required to
wear the Team Flame jersey during competition and they do not
receive sponsorship product or funding.
