The International Conference for the Advancement of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Rights

"The Right to be Different"

From 26 to 29 July 2006, an International Conference will be held in Montréal on GLBT rights. The Conference will take place within the framework of the 1st World Outgames Montréal 2006.  With about 2,000 participants expected, it will be the first time that a forum on this scale will be held, bringing together judges, lawyers, legal scholars, human rights advocates, specialists and concerned individuals from around the world to discuss specific issues related to GLBT rights.

Although in countries like Canada, and more particularly in Québec, GLBT rights have seen lasting progress, many countries and societies around the world oppress, imprison, restrict and even execute individuals because of their sexual orientation.

“The Right to Be Different” International Conference in Montréal will focus attention on the injustices suffered by the GLBT individuals while showing how the existence of, or at least improvements in, equal rights can become a factor in economic, social, cultural and human development, thus benefiting the entire society.

The Montréal International Conference affirms the right to be different. To reflect upon the realities of GLBT rights worldwide, and to be able to compare situations and form strategies for the advancement of rights, Montréal 2006 has established an International Scientific Committee to oversee the International Conference program on these issues.

THE FOLLOWING THEMES WILL BE ADDRESSED AT THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE:

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Rights in:

  • sports
  • the media
  • the workplace
  • family life
  • education
  • health and well-being

Register early for the conference as the number of places is limited to 2,000 attendees. Registration begins on 1 July 2004.
