John Ibson uses photographs of men (from his
collection of more than 5,000) from the Civil War
until post World War II in order to illustrate the
changing nature of male-to-male intimacy. The book

poses, whether they are taken from within a studio or
by a personal camera.
Gymnast Fights His Firing
The
circus company Cirque du Soleil faces possible
sanctions for its decision to fire gymnast Matthew
Cusick, who is HIV-positive. The company says that
Cusick’s HIV status poses a health risk to other
performers.

Boston Sportswriter Comes Out in Column
Ed Gray has
been a sportswriter for the Boston Herald for 20
years, but says the column he wrote Tuesday was the
best thing he has ever written. Gray came out to his
readers, writing, "I'm
out because I no longer ... choose to ignore the
unabashed homophobia that is so cavalierly tolerated
within the world of sports."

800 Number for Professional Athletes
The Gay and Lesbian Professional Athletes Association
has launched an 800 Number to offer free support to
professional athletes struggling with their sexuality.
Outsports Wins Journalism Award
Outsports.com was awarded first place for Excellence

Journalists Association at a ceremony Friday in Los
