HTML clipboard Stories of out and proud athletes still provide inspiration

Over the years we have run many profiles of out athletes, yet still hear from people who are unaware of how many stories we have told. We created this archive for readers old and new who want some inspiration from athletes who have come out to their teammates.

A few of these stories are about historic figures, and many of these stories are in the athlete's own words. If there is someone we have left off this list, please let us know. If you are an athlete who wants your story told or know of someone not on the list, please e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Dr. Eric Anderson  - It's important to remember   |194.66.200.xxx |2011-06-01 04:13:37
It is important to remember that this is only a splattering of those who are
actually out. I've interviewed another 60 men who are not profiled (can't
profile everyone and not everyone wants to be profiled) and I suspect there are
at least one or two more lesbians who are out of the closet, too. We've got a
Facebook group of openly LGBT coaches, now too, and there are already 21.
