Join The AAPHERD Gay
and Lesbian Council
NCAA Considering Adopting
Council to represent Gay Issues
In January 2000, the NCAA modified its nondiscrimination policy by
adding "sexual orientation" to its list of age, color, disability, gender,
national origin, race, religion, and creed. To help facilitate education
and awareness in our allied professions, The Council on Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual & Transgender Issues was formally adopted into the AAALF
bylaws on 28 October 2000. AAHPERD Board of Governors (BOG) will vote on the
AAALF bylaws changes at the Cincinnati convention in March. In order to
demonstrate the real and perceived need for this Council we'd like to
have at least 200 members by the March 2000 BOG meeting. We have now about
100 prospective members. If you would like to support this project by
becoming a prospective member the, fill out the questionnaire below and mail it
in. There is no commitment beyond the promise to join if and when this
Council is formed.
Anyone can join AAHPERD as an Associate Member for $75. If you
want to support our Council on LGBT Issues, they should note that and
request an affiliation with AAALF (American Association for Active Lifestyles and Fitness), one of the six Associations within the
Alliance. If they return a form to Nancy Bailey at CSUB, they will be contacted
after the Council is formed, and will be asked to join at that time. If
anybody wants to join in the meantime, the address is AAALF; 1900 Association
