In
Memoriam: Aaron Nelson, San Francisco Gay Softball League
The San
Francisco Gay Softball League and the sport of softball lost a good
friend recently as Aaron Nelson, a longtime member of the Lone Star
Mayhem, passed away shortly after this past Memorial Day. While scuba
diving in Key West, Florida, Nelson apparently suffered a heart attack
and never resurfaced.
Nelson, who
spent many years playing in San Francisco, was one of the most jovial
guys to play the game. He always had a smile on his face, and laughter
in his heart. It was extremely rare to find him in any mood other than
happy even when his team, or he himself, was not playing well.
I’m not
quite sure what his age was, but his youthful spirit made physical age
immaterial. The softball world mourns the loss of wonderful member of
our family.
In
Memoriam: Rickie Silva, Beantown Softball and Renaissance City
Softball League
The
Renaissance City Softball League (Rhode Island) wishes to extend our
deepest condolences to the friends, family & teammates of Rickie
Silvia due to his passing at much too young an age of a heart attack (http://www.beantownsoftball.com/ricky.html).
In addition
to his years in the Beantown Softball League (BSL), Rickie also played
ball in the RCSL's fall season since its inception in 1998 and had
been voted the RCSL's Most Valuable Player in 2001. He always played
to 100% of his capacity and made many friends in Rhode Island, as well
as in Boston.
The RCSL
has voted to remember Rickie by renaming the upper division in our
fall ball season the Richard Silvia Division in his memory & honor. It
is during moments such as this that we are reminded that we must focus
on the friendships and camaraderie that have been forged through the
years, and not strictly on the competition & rivalries that all too
often drive a wedge amongst us. We will miss Rickie and we are
sincerely grateful that he so loved softball that he played in both of
our leagues (BSL in the summer and RCSL in the fall).
The gay
softball community is deeply saddened and shares in both Boston's &
Rhode Island’s loss.
