Santhi Soundarajan, the Indian runner who won a silver medal in the 800-meter at the most recent Asian Games and then was stripped of it when she failed a gender test, has found a friend. Transgender Canadian cyclist Kristen Worley (who, via a third party, has contacted Outsports to let us know she considers herself “transitioned”) has taken up the cause and is championing Santhi’s quest to reinstate herself in the sport and get her medal back. It’s a tough one. With a binary sports system (men and women), and some people not falling into one or the other, it seems to me there needs to not just be more “sensitivity” on the subject, but more science. -Cyd Zeigler jr.
