Missouri’s football team has been whining all week that they have to play in the Big XII Championship before being given a ticket to the BCS title game. They claim it’s not fair that they have to play a conference championship while other teams (read: Ohio State and Georgia) don’t have to. What a bunch of bull. If Ohio State or Georgia was No. 2 in the BCS and Missouri was No. 3, them beating Oklahoma this Saturday would likely get them into the BCS title game. With strength of schedule and ranking in the polls as important as they are in the BCS, getting to play an extra game against a top team is a big advantage that Pac-10 and Big Ten teams don’t get (Georgia, for those who don’t know, aren’t even in the SEC Championship game, yet they have a shot of playing for the national championship). Cry me a river.

By the way, since I’m on the subject, Dan Wetzel has put out a basketball-like idea for a college football playoff. While I like the idea of a playoff, his idea sucks. There is absolutely no need for a 16-team tournament that would leave some teams having played a possible 16-game season. Invite four teams (undefeated teams, then use the BCS rankings) is all you need. -Cyd Zeigler jr.
