vancouver2010_mascots.gifThe Vancouver 2010 Olympics unveiled its mascots and my first response was: what the hell is that? Their names are Sumi, Quatchi and Miga. The organizers say that: “All three are mythical creatures with roots in local legend. One is a sasquatch. One is a sea-bear. And one is an animal guardian spirit.” The sea bear allegedly has a orca whale on its head (guess it’s a Rorschach test).

These mascots for international events always look dorky to me, being too cute by half. I much prefer Springy, the mascot designed by Homer Simpson when the Olympics were coming to Springfield. —Jim Buzinski
