The Japanese excel at creating wacky game shows from what seem like pursuits not naturally compatible, like “Iron Chef.” One recent hit is “Muscular Athlete Championship,” where jocks try and navigate a funky obstacle course. It takes real athletic skill to pull it off and the show features gymnasts, swimmers and decathletes, along with non-elite jocks.

One star of the show has been U.S. decathlete Paul Terek. According to the New York Times, "Terek, who often competed bare-chested against fully clothed Japanese, won about $50,000 and a new car." Of course, we like the bare-chested part. —Jim Buzinski
