The NFL released its 2008 schedule today and it was shown live on the NFL Network. Fair enough (better than old NFL Films from 1975). But ESPN broke into its programming for its own NFL schedule show. Both networks then spent the next two hours(!) dissecting games that won’t be played for five months or more. The NFLN even brought in analysts from other networks like John Madden to chew over the games. I am a huge NFL fan but I tuned out after 15 minutes of mindless prattle and just went online for a quick glance. The hype for a schedule release shows again why the NFL is Bigfoot in the American sports universe. —Jim Buzinski
