Turner Sports announced today that Charles Barkley is taking a leave of absence from his TNT duties for at least a few weeks in the wake of Barkley’s New Year’s Eve arrest on suspicion of drunk driving in Scottsdale, Arizona. Barkley had a blood alcohol level of .149, almost twice the legal limit in Arizona.

There is an interesting aspect to the story that is mostly being ignored by the media. Naturally, TMZ has the full story. The former NBA star ran a stop sign at about 1:30 am on New Year’s Eve and was pulled over by police…

According to the officer who wrote the report, “He told me that he ran the stop sign because he was in a hurry to pick up the girl I saw get in the passenger seat.”

The officer continues: “He asked me to admit that she was ‘hot.’ He asked me, ‘You want the truth?’ When I told him I did he said, ‘I was gonna drive around the corner and get a b**w job. He then explained that she had given him a ‘b**w job’ one week earlier and said it was the best one he had ever had in his life.”

I can’t help but wonder why no one else seems to have picked up on this. Barkley is not only married but has talked about running for governor of Alabama. It would seem that this could end his political career before it starts.

As if that weren’t enough, a site called TheDirty.com obtained a copy of Barkley’s receipt (above, along with his mugshot) from the Dirty Pretty Rock Bar, where Barkley was partying that night with former NY Giant Michael Strahan and Jaleel White, who once starred on a little TV show called “Family Matters.”

That’s right. Charles Barkley was hanging with none other than Steve Urkel.

There’s no truth to the rumor that when Barkley was pulled over by police he asked in a nasally voice, “Did I do that?”
