A lot of people picked the Texas Rangers to win the World Series over the San Francisco Giants based on Cliff Lee starting and winning two games. So much for that theory. Lee lasted only five innings and gave up five runs as the Giants blasted the Rangers, 11-7, in Game 1 of the World Series.

The Giants fell behind, 2-0, but piled it on before pulling away. Texas scored three in the ninth to make the score more respectable. Teams that have won Game 1 have gone on to won six of the last seven and 11 of the last 13 Series.

It's way too early to call the series over, but if the Giants hit like anything close to this, it will get ugly. By the seventh inning, watching Tony Bennett sing "God Bless America" was about the only high point in what had become a rout until the brief drama in the ninth.

It is always annoying watching Fox telecast any sporting event. For the Series we get the ponderous duo of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, plus the NFL theme music for some reason and way too many shots of fans. At least the dopey Fox robot is missing.
