Serena Williams avoids more small tournaments

Serena Williams now has a long pattern of avoiding second- and third-tier tournaments while putting all of her focus on the Grand Slam events. She's doing it again this month, claiming an undisclosed foot injury that will keep her off the court at least through next week.

The big question: Does anyone outside the real tennis fans care? Serena is winning Grand Slam titles (13 and counting), and that seems to be what most of the public focuses on. Yet some hardcore tennis fans aren't too happy with Serena, claiming she wants the glory of the Grand Slams but won't give back to the sport by participating in these smaller tournaments; Others see it as her free choice. Does she have a responsibility to play in these smaller tournaments?
