Brian Mitchell and Ivan Carter

Former Washington Redskins running back and return specialist Brian Mitchell is featured in a new video supporting the You Can Play project (video below). The former Pro Bowler, who holds a slew of NFL special-teams records, is now a co-host on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic's Sunday night show Sports Plus. He appears in the video with his co-host Ivan Carter, and the company has put its stamp of approval on the initiative. The duo says in the video:

There's not much Ivan and I agree on. We go head to head on almost every issue. But thanks to the You Can Play project, all of us at Comcast Sports have a message we all support. You Can Play is working hard to end homophobia in sports, and we're proud to stand with them. Respect the game by respecting all fans and athletes. Athletes should be judged on their talent and character, not their sexual orientation. Hey, if you can play, you can play.

Mitchell played in the NFL for 14 seasons with the Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants. He’s often in the mix when people talk about potential Hall of Fame inductees, and he’s got a chance of making it some day.

Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic produced the video and is playing it across their platforms. According to YCP publicist Craig Brownstein, Mitchell and Carter are the first U.S. media personalities to produce a You Can Play video.
