San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers endorsed Rick Santorum for president last week, specifically citing the former Pennsylvania Senator's fight against same-sex marriage. Rivers made the announcement before the Republican primary in his home state of Alabama. Said Rivers, in a statement from Santorum's campaign:
I am supporting Rick Santorum for President because of his stance on issues that attack vital Christian values our country was founded upon: no abortion, upholding traditional marriage, defending religious freedom, no euthanasia. Rick Santorum will also fight to create jobs and expand opportunities for all Americans. I am proud to endorse Senator Santorum and do what I can to help him secure the Republican nomination for President of the United States.
This isn't the first time a San Diego Charger has fought against same-sex marriage rights. In 2008, Jacques Cesaire actively fought to pass Proposition 8, which took away the right to marry for same-sex couples.
I'm so glad I'm not a Chargers fan.
