Swedish Olympic skier Anja Paerson discusses long-term lesbian relationship

Swedish Olympic gold medal skier Anja Pärson told radio program Sommar that she has been in a relationship with a woman for five years, and they are expecting a child. We have a couple videos of Paerson (who speaks English) below. From Swedish newspaper Expressen (translated via Babylon):

Anja and Filippa met seven years ago, but the couple has been waiting to tell the story of their love. .. Anja and Filippa met in Umeå, Sweden in 2005. … Their friendship became ever deeper with time. All of a sudden one day Anja has a feeling she had not known before. She had fallen in love with her new friend, and Filippa had fallen in love with her.

According to the Associated Press, there has been speculation about Pärson's sexual orientation for years. SheWired is also on top of the story.

Pärson won Olympic gold in slalom at the 2006 Turin Games. She won six Olympic medals from 2002-2010 and is a seven-time world champion. To give a point of reference, Picaboo Street won three Olympic medals and one world championship; Lindsay Vonn has won two Olympic medals and two world championships.

When Pärson retired from skiing a few months ago, she talked about something new for her. This must have been top-of-mind for her.
