Trans MMA fighter Fallon Fox today signed a bout agreement with Championships Fighting Alliance for a fight now scheduled for May 24 in Florida, her manager, Brett Atchley, has told Outsports.
Fox is currently scheduled to fight Allana Jones in the tournament semifinal. However, Jones' trainer Glen Bailey told MMA Junkie they're waiting to sign the contract.
"The last conversation we had with [CFA] was that they were waiting until April 5 to see what the commission's decision was going to be with Fallon's license," said Jones' trainer, Glen Bailey. "Obviously, I have concerns about this fight. Not so much that I'm worried about Allana losing; losses happen within the sport. But the circumstances surrounding it."
Jones currently has a professional record of 2-1. If she declines the fight, CFA will find another opponent for Fox, Atchley said.
Atchley isn't concerned.
"They're not going to have a problem finding an opponent," he told Outsports. "Somebody wants to be the one who beats Fallon Fox. And they'll see it as an opportunity to make more money. If Allana Jones doesn't fight, so what? Someone else will."
That opportunity to make more money is very real. Rumors are swirling that the bout will be broadcast on television, which would bring a much higher profile to the event and more cash to the fighters and promoter. It would be shocking, given the national interest in that fight, if it wasn't broadcast.
As for Fox's license, she is currently eligible to fight in the state of Florida. Despite the lack of transgender policy there, her license has not been suspended or frozen while an investigation takes place. Atchley said he does not see the commissions denying her a license.
