Washington Redskins defensive end Adam Carriker was asked on his radio show, 4th & Pain, about a gay NFL athlete coming out of the closet. His answer falls right in line with what we’ve come to expect from NFL athletes focused on teamwork and winning:

Odds are somebody out there int he big wide world of the NFL is gay. … If somebody comes out, I think it's going to depend on the locker room. There are certain locker rooms that have veteran leadership more so than others. For instance, if it was a Washington Redskin player I don't think it would be a big deal. We have a lot of veteran good guys, good veteran leadership on this team.

He's spot-on. Any athlete in the NFL who comes out will find more supporters than detractors. But if it's in a good locker room with strong, veteran leadership, he'll do great.
