Matthew Simmons, who served four years in the Marine Corps band and was a porn actor in his past, was picked as Mr. Gay World USA this weekend. Simmons won the pageant while wearing his Marine dress blues and then taking that off to pose in a swimsuit (photos here).
This is not a sports story, but we mention it since Simmons will compete at the Mr. Gay World pageant, held in conjunction with the Outgames in Antwerp, Belgium, July 31-Aug. 5. Why the Outgames is collaborating with a glorified beauty pageant is beyond me.
Simmons, 25, was in the news in 2010 when a military court ruled he did not violate his oath by wearing his Marine uniform in porn videos using the name "Christian Jade."
"I've made some decisions in my past that don't necessarily reflect the person that I am. But what I have to do now is look forward and continue on a path of courage and commitment. I hope to use my experiences to help others make appropriate decisions for themselves and to use my story as an example to reach encouraging outcomes," said Simmons.
