The National Basketball Association has teamed up with You Belong Sports & Leadership Camp for their LGBT basketball camp in Chicago, July 25-28.

"We are beyond thrilled to have the NBA as a partner for this camp, their support will make it an unforgettable experience for our youth participants," explained Wade A. Davis Jr., co-founder of YOU Belong. Activist Darnell Moore is Davis' partner on the project. "How many young people, LGBTQ or straight, have opportunities to meet and work with NBA players and staff?"

The NBA's partnership will be hands-on at the camp. From their press release:

As part of its support of the camp, the NBA’s own Donnie Arey, will act as lead clinician to facilitate the basketball skills training aspects of the camp and will arrange visits of current and former NBA/WNBA players each day. The NBA has confirmed the appearances of NBA player Jason Collins as well as retired NBA player, Jarron Collins, Jason’s twin brother. They will also donate autographed basketballs and host a fun free throw competition between an NBA player and Eliza Byard, Executive Director of Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). GLSEN will be the fiscal agent of the inaugural YOU Belong camp and is a long-time partner of the NBA.

"We are excited to be working with Wade and Darnell on this camp and look forward to a partnership that allows all kids the chance to play and grow in a safe, supportive environment," said Kathy Behrens, the NBA's Executive Vice President of Social Responsibility and Player Programs.
