90% of players with Sam's stats are on NFL roster
Michael Sam had 11 tackles and three sacks in the NFL preseason. Yet that still hasn't been enough to get the openly gay defensive end a spot on an NFL roster headed into week 11.
Michael Sam has been named one of GQ's Men of the Year and will grace the cover the magazine's next issue. He's one of six covers for the annual issue. Jason Collins was named one of the magazine's Men of the Year in 2013.
The GQ article speculates that Sam could end up playing in Arena Football with the Las Vegas Outlaws, though there's little chance of that. Despite being snubbed unfairly by the NFL so far, some team should latch onto Sam in the next few weeks. If not, the NFL and its 32 teams will have some explaining to do. He has been signed and released by the St. Louis Rams and Dallas Cowboys this season.
Sam has already been given ESPN's Arthur Ashe Courage Award and some have suggested he should be Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year. Whether he steps foot on a football field or not, he's been the biggest sports story of the year.
Sam's boyfriend Vito Cammisano tweeted a cute congratulations:
