Soccer player kisses opponent on field instead of fighting

"I did it to defuse the situation," English player says about the smooch.

Lee Mansell of the Bristol Rovers soccer team in England got into it with JJ O'Donnell or Gateshead during a match this week and decided to kiss instead of fight.

Mansell got a yellow card but he says it was worth it, telling BBC Radio Bristol:

"I did it to defuse the situation. It's the first time I've been booked for kissing someone. ... I got in the car to go home and saw Twitter had lit up and my missus said: ‘What the hell were you thinking?'

"But we had a laugh and a joke about it with the lads afterwards. It's another thing to add to the list of daft things I've done on the football pitch."

Twitter had fun with it:

It was not daft and the two would make a cute couple.
