'Out To Win,' the documentary film about gay athletes and their contributions to the gay sports movement, will have its world premiere at SXSW this March as part of SXsports.

The film chronicles the stories of some of the most well-known gay athletes, including Dave Kopay, Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova, John Amaechi, Billy Bean, Jason Collins and Brittney Griner. Director Malcolm Ingram uses those stories, along with commentary from various experts in the field, to walk the long journey of gay acceptance in sports. He also showcases the lives of current younger athletes, like college baseball and football players Chandler Whitney and Conner Mertens.

Ingram previously directed Small Town Gay Bar (about, well, small town gay bars) and Continental (about the storied Continental Baths in New York City).

If the first 15 minutes I've seen are any indication, the movie is powerful.

The SXSW premiere is set for Sunday, March 15, at 7pm. Whether you attend the premiere or not, there will be an after-party for the film at the Iron Bear (121 West 8th St.) that night at 9pm – it's open to anyone, just RSVP to [email protected]. Other screenings will take place on March 17 & 18.

There will also be a discussion about LGBT pro athletes in 2015, with Collins, Griner and Megan Rapinoe.

The film will get its London debut at the BFI Flare film festival on March 29.
