New York Islanders fans are being accused of using a torrent of homophobic comments during the team’s Stanley Cup Playoffs win against the Washington Capitals on Sunday. Deadspin has a couple of the accounts by Capitals fans, as shared on the blog Driven By Boredom:

Unfortunately once the game started things went decidedly downhill. We were told to shut up and yelled all manor of things at us. The fans directly around us were pretty friendly but the people a few rows in front and a few rows behind were not. When the Islanders scored their first goal one of the guys behind me poured beer all over me. Homophobic bullshit was shouted at us all game and my friend Fatou had a number of racist comments directed at her.

The blogger, Nate "Igor" Smith, also said some Islanders fans came to their defense. Yet it's another demonstration that when some sports fans want to insult people they will go right to the homophobia and racism.

Hopefully someone with the Islanders investigates this, finds out who it is and bars them from anymore games this season. No one needs that nonsense in the stands.
