Scholarships established at the 2002 Gay Games continue to provide grants to LGBTQ Athletes through the Gene and John Athletic Fund of Stonewall Community Foundation.

Here are the details, provided by the Stonewall Foundation, on how to apply, with a June 8 deadline:

Do you identify as LGBTQ? Are you an athlete? Do you need help affording school or continuing your athletic pursuits?
Apply to the Gene and John Athletic Fund of Stonewall Community Foundation. The fund was created by Gene Silbert and John Kiley and lauched at the 2002 Sydney Gay Games. The scholarship is available to LGBTQ athletes looking to continue their education and LGBTQ students actively pursuing a sports career, either professionally or recreationally.
The Gene and John Athletic Fund awards scholarships to LGBTQ athletes whose athletic achievements demonstrate what is possible when one is courageous and strives hard in pursuit of their dreams.
Ranging from $2,500 to $5,000, these scholarships lend financial support to athletes, recognize them as community leaders, and celebrate their efforts to bring visibility to LGBTQ people in sports.
