The Rev. Franklin Graham, the son of Billy Graham and an evangelical leader in his own right, showed his bigotry, transphobia, homophobia and ignorance in comments toward Caitlyn Jenner and gays and lesbians.
In a post to his 3.6 million Facebook followers, Graham reacted to the news that Jenner would pose nude for Sports Illustrated:
Headlines every day reveal what a sad state we're in. CBS News just reported that Caitlyn Jenner will pose nude for the cover of Sports Illustrated, draped only in his Olympic gold medal and an American flag. There's a lot wrong with that picture!
And The New York Times just published a story asking "Should Prostitution be a Crime?" because some want "full decriminalization of consensual sex work."
And, as if that isn't enough, our cartoons aren't even immune! Disney's "Frozen," the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, has some supporters calling for the heroine Elsa to have a lesbian girlfriend in the movie's sequel. In the social media campaign for this, one proponent tweeted, "Little kids need to learn that there's nothing wrong with being gay." What a lie! This reveals their agenda to get the LGBT message to young children and influence their lives. God calls His people to be salt and light in a dark world.
Pray for our nation, and get involved by standing up for God's truth and His righteousness.
His post received 84,000 likes while 18,000 people were angry at the post.
Graham also reacted negatively to news that President Obama would make the Stonewall Inn in New York a federal monument to honor the LGBT civil right movement: "A monument to sin? That's unbelievable. War heroes deserve a monument, our nation's founding fathers deserve a monument, people who have helped to make America strong deserve a monument — but a monument to sin?"
It's easy to mock views as outdated as Graham's, but he still has a following and laws like North Carolina's anti-LGBT HB2 show how much damage can still be done, all allegedly in the name of God.
